Bramber
The remains of the Norman castle at Bramber in West Sussex date from around 1070AD. The gatehouse depicted here is the most substantial part of the remains. The site is ripe with legend - it is listed in the Domesday Book as the seat of William de Baose IV, who was rumoured to have been involved in various murders and dasterdly deeds connected with King John. When he later fell out with King Richard I, William escaped to France leaving his wife and children to be imprisoned and starved to death in the tower at Bramber, where their ghosts are said to wander the grounds today.

Chanctonbury
Chanctonbury Ring is an Iron Age Hill Fort sitting on a ridge of the South Downs in West Sussex. There are many tales associated with this site, from Druidic hauntings to galloping ghost horses, buried treasure and UFO sightings. I know this clump of Beech trees best as the place where dancing widdershins (anticlockwise) 7 times around the Ring could cause the devil to appear with a bowl of soup in exchange for your soul. The view is beautiful though!

Ran
The Norse Goddess Ran, rules over the Northern Seas. She represents the unpredictable nature of bodies of water, choosing to protect those who respect her or conjour storms and capture the souls of those who don't. She appears in stories in both human and mermaid form, with her long, dark, curly hair tangled in miles of seaweed.
